Golf Grip Tips
Let's face it, whether you are a novice, intermediate or a single digit handicapper, in the
game of golf, your grip on the club will determine the outcome of your golfing game. Even though the grip on the club is one of the most basic
things of the game it is perhaps the most important. These few basic golf grip tips may well be just what you need to improve your score.
Believe it or not the physical size and shape of your hands will be one of the determining factors on how you should grasp your club. Let's
assume your hands have the physical characteristic of being somewhat short and thicker around the palm. These particular physical characteristics
are better suited to use what is known as the "interlocking" golf grip.
This simply means you will grasp the club by intertwining the left index finger with the small finger on the opposite hand. In other words the
two fingers will lap over each other and lock together.
This particular grip may also help golfers which have a difficult time with the "overlapping" and "baseball" grip, which we will discuss
shortly.
Arguably the most common way that is taught on how to hold the golf club is called the "overlap" or "Vardon Overlap". In general this grip is
used by the seasoned male golfer.
The physical shape of the hand will be wider, thinner long fingers, joined to a strong wrist and developed forearms. If your hands have these
physical characteristic's you will find it relatively easy to place your hands on the club by having the little finger of your right hand
overlapping the first finger on the left hand. However, this way of gripping a club is not for everyone, especially those with smaller hands and
less strength in their forearms and wrist. This in turn brings us to the next golf grip tip.
A great many women, adolescent and senior golfers may find the "baseball" grip" to be the most advantageous way to hold their club. You will
take your left hand and place it on the club, with the thumb pointing down the shaft to the 12:00 position of the clock. Next place the right
hand directly underneath the left, allowing the little finger of the right hand to touch the little finger of the left hand. You should make sure
these two fingers are not laying over each other or intertwined.
It makes no difference which of the three golf grip tips work best for you; you must practice the grip to improve your game.
Tips For Golf Tip #1
Work on developing a fundamentally solid, repetitive golf swing. Regardless of whether you are a beginning
golfer or accomplished pro, work on having a sound golf swing until it becomes second nature to you. It will help you play better golf as
well as enjoy the game so much more.
Tips For Golf Tips #2
Practice with a purpose. Whenever you go to the driving range always go to practice a specific part of
your golf game. Don't just hit balls all over the place like so many golfers do. Have a purpose in mind and you'll quickly begin improving
your golf game.
Tips For Golf Tips #3
Build up your strength and flexibility to gain more distance. The key to hitting the ball farther isn't
with the latest $400 driver from Callaway. It is about developing more strength and flexibility, especially in your golf specific muscles.
It's a sure way to gain 20-30 yards off the tee.
